What decor trends?
I've been thinking about this for awhile but the new 70's commerical on HGTV made me even more curious to see what everyone else thought.
What decor/construction trends that are popular right now do you think are going to eventually be outdated?
Imo, personally.. I think the open concept trend is eventually going to slow down. I'm not a personal fan of it but I can see what a positive difference it makes in some homes.
Thoughts?

Re: What decor trends?
Maybe flagstone outside? I see houses with 1972 flagstone and it no longer looks nice so maybe that will happen to all of the flagstone houses of today?

Re: What decor trends?
Oh and wainscoting (which we have).
That will be dated too and our future buyers will be cursing the removal of our "paneling".

Re: What decor trends?
I agree with stainless steel & wainscotting. And possibly recessed lights & farmhouse sinks.
I'm not sure about subway tile. I think that has already established itself as a classic. I had it in an old apt bilding I lived in, and it didn't look dated, so i dont' think new ly installed subway tiles would look dated either.

Re: What decor trends?
I think white PVC fence. I've seen PVC that looks like wood and liked it much better. DH wasn't on board for it though.

I bought my co-op in 2006 & I am already cursing the removal of the "paneling" but mostly b/c it was hastily slapped up & isn't holding up well.

I agree but I have never been a fan of PVC fences.

subway tile is so classic...maybe the newer trendier takes on it- but white subway tile is timeless
my new apartment has it- orginal details- and that's one of the reason I wanted to move there

The small square glass mosaic tiles in kitchen back splashes in one shade of color will date your kitchen.

I think the dark wood kitchen cabinets and pencil tile backsplashes...even though I love how they look.

I agree, subway tile in white is classic and timeless. If it's done properly and maintained, it is difficult to tell how long ago it was done. The home I grew up in was over 100 years old and had the original subway tile, pedestal sink and clawfoot tub. Even in the 80's it didn't look dated.
I think that the stainless appliances and glass backsplash kitchens will look dated.
"Mismatched" cabinetry in the kitchen
laminate flooring
Vessel sinks, frameless doors and natural color tiles in bathrooms
Full open concept homes.

I think anything considered "Modern". Because there's always NEW modern lol
Anything Traditional (as long as it's your personal taste) will never be outdated. It's like a t-shirt and jeans - it's never out of style.
