There's John Harvard, Chilis, Ragazzi ItAlian Kitchen (by the mall), but if you want to go into Stony Brook Village I love Mirabelle Tavern and Jake Starr Cafe.

There's O sole Mio right next to the movies. it's italian, and gets busy Friday nights, but is good.

LOOOOOVE O Sole Mio (I live around the corner) but on a Friday night it's insanity, it's small so it fills up quickly. Carrabbas's is nearby as is Famous Dave's, The Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and all the other chains like TGIF, Chili's, Red Lobster, etc. If you head down 25 into Smithtown there is Buena Sera (owned by O Sole Mio), Baja Grill, Butera's, and more. It's only about 5 to 7 min from the theater.
Wherever you go, the earlier for dinner the better otherwise you're looking at some pretty crazy waits at most all of these places. Have fun tonight!

I recommend Jake Starr Cafe as well! Very good!

Re: where to eat in stonybrook
John Harvards is one of our favorite places.
If you like Japanese there is Kumo.
When we go out with DH's family we always go to J&Rs steakhouse.
There are sooo many restaurants in the area.

Re: where to eat in stonybrook
I guess I'm the only one who isn't that impressed with John Harvards. For a quick meal, California Pizza Kitchen is better to me.
Chop Shop is in Smithtown, it's our favorite casual place for a meal that's really good quality but I'd make reservations.
I hope you have a good date!
