Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
I have a DS and he is 17 months. I am having another DS, they will be 19 months apart. There isn't much I need besides new nipples and binkys, a car seat adapter for the double stroller we bought, that's about it. We were going to buy that stuff ourselves.
Yesterday, SIL texted me saying that they are having a sprinkle for me, only family and it's more of a gathering but the invitations said shower on it.
I feel really guilty. I already had a shower and not that long ago. I feel like even though my SIL and sister said it's just something small, that people who get the invitation won't think that way, that they will think we are selfish and that we just want stuff. DH said that we didn't even plan it or ask for it so that means we aren't selfish but I can't help but think that people will feel that way.

I'd feel guilty too. I guess I'm not much help, but I do think they should have checked with you first. Is it at a home, or restaurant? Hopefully people will just give you small gifts or an outfit or something.

Please dont take this the wrong way. But I am not a fan of sprinkles at all. In fact people wanted to throw me something and I begged and pleaded for them not too. My dc will be 26 months apart and even though number two is going to be a boy we bought everything gender neutral with my dd. Im glad my family and friends listened to me cause i would have been angry LOL. But since they are throwing you one dont feel guilty hopefully it will be something small and intimate

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
I know exactly what you mean! My mom and BFF have mentioned doing something small (like at my mom's place or BFF's place) with just immediate family, but haven't said they're actually doing anything so I don't know.
But I can't help but wonder if people are going to feel like, oh another party to give a gift for??? KWIM?
We are having a different gender this time and there are some things we do need, but I don't want anyone to feel like they have to buy me anything! I figure people will probably buy something (even a little something) anyway and that's fine, but I really don't want anyone to feel bad. It's really just a couple of people in my family that I'm really worried about.
My cousin had a baby shower for each of his 4 kids so it's not like a it's a surprise to my family. And I'm not talking a sprinkle, a big shower at a place etc. My brother told me I get another shower since this baby is the opposite sex. I was like ???? I figured the kids will be close together so no shower or sprinkle or whatever. Regardless, I want nothing to do with planning anything.

I'm not either, and I've been known too skip them. Call me awful, but I feel compelled to bring a gift when I first meet the baby, so this is an additional gift? I told my family no way under any circumstances, as my DSs will be almost 3 years apart and I would feel too guilty.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
being hispanic my family always had a baby shower for each pregnancy. when i started dating dh who is white and coming on this site i had no idea that a m2b was only to have one shower. so i see no problem with a sprinkle. it gives me another reason to shop for a good friend or family member.
sorry you feel bad

I would be upset that they didn't ask me first and I would also be concerned about how the people invited would feel about it. I'm not a fan of sprinkles. I'm sorry you were put in this position.

I feel you. Not a fan either. I have already warned all possible accomplices that I do not want a shower/sprinkle. I'd rather get what we need ourselves. There will be plenty of other opportunities to celebrate the new baby, i.e. Christening/First Birthday.

I would feel bad too nd a little embarrassed and I think they should have ran it by you first but their intentions were good
I guess people can just decline if they have a problem with it.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
My sister in law had one..(this was already 6 years ago)..it was at her mom's house, and i admit it annoyed me a little bit. That being said, i could understand how it could be nice to get together with very close family and friends just for a small gathering where most people just buy an outfit, if anything.
Don't feel bad though, you didn't plan this!!!

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
I'm not realy a fan of them, but actually can see them in certain cases, so I guess I'm not completely against them. I can totally see where you are coming from. I just got wind that my mom and sisters are having a small one for me. It's small, and at home, AND my last shower was 8 years ago. I had nothing left (sold, gave away or donated, or it's simply expired and no longer able to be used). I basically needed everything except the crib and pack and play!
I feel bad they are doing it, but I can't stop them. I know family and friends won't mind.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
I'm a person that says to take the generosity when it comes... I don't expect anything from anyone, and when something good comes my way, I graciously accept the gesture and appreciate my friends/family for what they have done for me... I say go, enjoy, and view it as a day to celebrate your new little one. You did not plan this... enjoy it.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
My kids will be almost 4 years apart - first was and second will be a . My friends are throwing me a "Baby #2 Celebration," instead of a shower or sprinkle. They are doing it at a nail salon and we're getting mani/pedis. We only invited 12 people and they did an evite so it's low key. The goal was to relax and be pampered before #2. Those that have asked me I've told no gifts but I bet some bring some. I had more people I could have invited but didn't so it would stay small and in control. I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
Nope..I'm hispanic and every baby gets a shower...whether it's baby #1 or baby #5. I love sprinkles. They way I see it is I'm going to buy you a gift anyway might as well enjoy a little party and some food too. I think every baby should be celebrated.

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
If you are blessed to have family who love you and your baby enough to want to treat you to a party and presents, then be happy- not guilty!
One thing I'm learning about this "sprinkle" debate is do what makes you happy and everyone else's opinions be damned!

Re: Feeling guilty about a sprinkle
I could never feel guilty about a party to celebrate a new life! If your loved ones want to gather and celebrate your new bundle of joy, than I think you are a very blessed woman and should enjoy every minute of it.
I would never frown upon receiving an invite to a sprinkle/shower no matter how many children you have.

I had a sprinkle, and I really could care less if people thought it was selfish or tacky. It wasn't about the presents, it was about celebrating a new baby. If you don't like it, don't come! Or don't bring a gift..I would not care since to me, it isn't about the gifts.
I'm Irish/Spanish, and on both sides of my family, every baby was celebrated with a shower. Same goes for DH's Filipino family. So I have never seen an issue with a sprinkle, JMO.
