If you moved out of state...
How did you begin the process? Did you find jobs first? What about if you have a house to sell soon after? I was just throwing this idea around but it seems to be really hard so I would appreciate feedback from those that have done it or have looked into it.

Re: If you moved out of state...
Our situation was a bit different but we had the job and rental lined up before we left.
My close friends just moved to SC. The DH got the job first, then moved down to look for a rental home, and the wife and kids followed about a month later. They are still in the process of selling their house.

Re: If you moved out of state...
Looking back on it, we must have been nuts. My DH figured out what he was going to do for work, then we sold our house, then we found a place to rent in our new state. However, we had 1 years worth of savings as my DH was starting his own business and we knew we wouldn't have income for the first 9 to 12 months. Luckily it all worked out better than we could have imagined but it was a definite leap of faith!

Re: If you moved out of state...
DHs company moved us here so DH had a job. With the relo package we looked for a house. Since DH was renting and we just got married it was relatively easy to do. It took me about 6 months to find something, but I had just graduated from school.

Re: If you moved out of state...
We didn't have a house to sell, and we weren't even engaged yet. Dh had his own businesses in ny and we decided to move to FL. He was going to open a business in fl. We knew the general area we wanted to live. We took maybe 3-4 trips down, found a new townhouse to rent. Then we moved. I started applying for jobs online while still living in ny. I got a few responses, and i did telephone interview(s) and got the job. I started the job 5 days after we moved to fl. I'm still here almost 6 yrs later.
I think it's best to visit the area multiple times to get a good feel for it and where you'd like to live. I recommend renting first too. We bought our house after 3 yrs in fl

Re: If you moved out of state...
We were crazy we moved down with no jobs but we had $$ in savings, just got married a year before and didn't have kids yet. Luckily, I got a job within a few weeks of moving down and DH within 2 months. We're still here 5 years later and we do like it, but find ourselves thinking about moving back a lot. Although DH's entire family is here, DD has tons of little couins and we're doing well, it just doesn't feel like "home" (if that makes sense).

And I agree with this, we had visited multiple times and came down a month before moving to find a condo to rent. We rented for a year and then bought in the area we liked.

Re: If you moved out of state...
When I was single and the economy was better and I had savings, I found an apt and moved w/o a job. Got a job 3 weeks alter, temp job turned into full time and was the best job I have ever had.
Now that I am married w/a baby and a house, DH is going to find a job first, then we will most likely rent an apt while we look for a house. But $$ we might have to rent a house for awhile before we can buy.
