What is on your kitchen island?
Just thinking way ahead... The kitchen I have now has no light and no room and feels so cramped. I can't wait to get an island when we move. I dont want anything on it, I just want it to be a work space, maybe a higher counter for stools. DH keeps saying a sink would be nice or a stovetop. I just dont want to take away from an open work area. What do you have? Do you wish you had something or do you like the way it is?

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
We have a two tier - cooktop on the lower level, nothing on upper.
If I could do it again, I'd just do one level - more surface that way. The cooktop breaks up the lower level so I don't really have a ton of counter space when I really should...

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
We use our island as a workspace...by the end of the day this is what ends up on it: mail/packages/important papers our phones DH's keys, wallet & wedding ring
If it had a sink I think that would take away from some of its utility, since our sink is close and fairly large, but depending on the layout of your kitch it could be helpful to have that right by the workspace.

Our main sink is located in our island.

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
we're putting an island in our new kitchen. There won't be anything on it. I want to use it as a workspace and serving space. I had no interest in putting a sink or stovetop there.
if you want stools, I would go with counter height stools rather than bar height. That way you can maximize workspace& versitility by keeping the island countertop all one height.

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
Our sink is in our island as well. But our island is very long; so we had the space for it. I love having it there; and it doesnt get in the way of "work space" either.

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
I have a peninsula rather than an island. We keep bar stools on one side and the kids eat breakfast and snacks there. I keep our banana tree there and often put out a dish of cherries or grapes too - the kids tend to eat the fruit when they see it and it's accessible.
Since the Island holds a lot of my 'tools' I really use it as a work space most of the time.
I also have keys hanging on the wall next to it.

Re: What is on your kitchen island?
Nothing, mine is just extra counter/prep space. It's not huge, so having an appliance built in wouldn't work too well in our layout.
