we're going on a disney cruise!
So excited! We just booked the 8 night Disney cruise leaving from NY in June! We've never been on a cruise before so any tips from cruise experts would be appreciated!!!

Congratulations! We have a bunch of clients sailing those Disney NY cruises. We're having a blast planning their Disney World day, shore excursions and specialty dining. You won't be sorry - it's going to be an amazing cruise!

You should go on Disboards and join a fish extender group. There is a lady on facebook that makes adorable fish extenders, and really cute custom pillow cases for the kids. If you are interested in the link to her, let me know.
We are doing the weekend cruise in NYC. Trying out our sea legs before we book something longer lol.

here are a few tips for cruising:
1. the cruise lines will only giv eyou so much shampoo/soap although obviously they will refill for you, but its not like top quality products, so if you like using your own, bring it.
2. make sure to book any specialty restaurants in advance that your cruise may offer, they book out fast and you'll be put on a waiting list afterwards and there is no guarantee you'll get in. Takes two seconds to make a reservation
3. Same thing with spa/salon appointments, act fast if you know what you want, especially on sea days. most people book appointments then because they want something to do during their day at sea and its really hard to get an appointment on the ship for those days. HOWEVER< usually, ships will offer same day discounts for regular days. For example, if you are scheduled to be at a port of call on a Tuesday, they will announce on the the daily bulletin that all facials for example are half off since most people would rather not miss the day out and about at the port of call.
4. Excusrions! If you know you want to do something really bad, Book it! don't wait! the best ones always book fast and you may get stuck doing something you didn't really want to do. You can always cancel the excursion later and get your money back, but err on the side of caution.
5. if you know you and your group of people on the cruise are not big people persons - make sure you get a table at dinner for just you. If not, they will pair you with other people and its very hard getting the coveted table for 2 once your midway through the sailing. Request it early to guarantee your tables. Same goes for the time of dinner. Most people prefer late dining, unless its a family, which mist prepfer the earlier slot. Don't choose the early slot and then want to change for a later time because it will probably be booked. If you don't know which, choose the later time, by the time you come back from your excursion, you'll most likely lounge get showered and changed and it will already be around 7pm - just in time for dinner!
6 be prepared to get suckered into taking a gazillion pro pics on the ship. its ok to say no.
7. verify if your ship will charge you ahead of time for tips for your staff that helped you on your cruise or if you will have to pay at the end of your stay. also make sure that the amount of the tip was not already included in the price of the ticket.
8. make sure you have all the proper documentation to get in and out of the US!
9. SunScreen! and bring some Aloe Vera or something in the event you get burned. Or anything else you think you may need while your on the ship. Everything at the gift shop costs 10x more than what you would pay for at home.
10. Have Fun!

Disney Cruise Line uses H2O+ Spa line and unless you have specialty hair products you HAVE to use, you should be just fine with the shampoo & conditioner. Matter of fact, I get extras from my steward and use them at home. The yummy body butter is on my desk in front of me as we speak.
On DCL, main seating books up much faster than late seating so request main early if you want it. We actually prefer late seating because of Dine & Play.
Disney does NOT automatically charge you for gratuities.

I've done this several times. Let me know if you have questions. It's pricey but I think it's worth doing at least once. Included in the price are photos of your group and the kids' props for the wishing ceremony. I think it's great for little girls and little boys will get a LOT of attention!

We can not book shuttle until april4th for our
June 23rd cruise out of NY...
Also, we booked our trip back in October and they were already booked for early seating. we were out on a wait list for the early seating and about 2 weeks ago we got in...
