anyone thinking about planting yet? some questions...
This time of year is my cooking craziness. I cook so much stuff every weekend because i can't garden. yet, i am thinking about plants!!
Am I the only one thinking about what to plant come spring?
when do we plant bulbs?
what kind of plants will survive with tree-rooty soil?
what do you plant to have blossoms / flowers from spring to end of summer?
thanks!

Re: anyone thinking about planting yet? some questions...
is there a general time of year to start planting or its all based on what you are dealing with?>
i was so surprised to find out that grass should be planted in the fall, not spring. and its so true. we planted a patch in the spring and it was all crab grass. the parts that were seeded in the fall came in so nicely.
to be honest, i just would like to plant some nice shrubbery, bushes, plants....

I am. Already thinking about my veggie garden and how I want to expand it and try to get DH on board with that. What new perennials to plant and how I can do it on the cheap. And ripping out my front bushes so I can plant something non bush.

We are starting to plan out our veggie garden - did very well last year with zucchini, string beans, peppers and cucumbers. Tomatoes were a bust

Re: anyone thinking about planting yet? some questions...
Spring blooming bulbs are generally planted in the fall to allow them to get their roots started, so plan to get some and put them in next October and November. Daffodils will come back every year and a variety if chosen by their season - early, mid, late - will give you a longer blooming season.
Put them where you will not have to mow down their leaves until they have a chance to mature as the leaves give the bulb the ability to recharge itself so that it will have the ability to come back and bloom again the next spring. Under shrubs that leaf out after the daffodils have flowered works well as the shrub hides the long daffodils leaves which tend to flop after a while.
Put in some crocus for early spring color too. They come up before the daffodils. They will mature by the time you start mowing so they can go anywhere in your lawn. They can be tucked in between roots fairly easily.
