Out of curiosity...ultrasound gel
Most of us have read the stuff about how pre-seed is the only sperm-safe lubricant while TTC. I was at monitoring yesterday, and I started thinking about the ultrasound gel and whether or not it was safe for sperm.
Then I did some online reading, and one study said they tested "Aquasonic" (a brand I guess) and said it wasn't safe for sperm.
Does anyone know if the stuff they use in fertility offices is ok?
ETA: When I was in for monitoring this AM (LIIVF) the gel she used was Aquasonic. I have to remember to ask the doc about this when I see him in 2 weeks.

Re: Out of curiosity...ultrasound gel
Never thought about it but I am guessing that an RE would make sure to use a gel that is safe and not harmful to sperm since their goal is to get women pregnant.

Re: Out of curiosity...ultrasound gel
When i had my iuis, neither time did the RE use gel. I think that is why it is so uncomfortable. He did not use gel with the clamp. I think the same went for ivf.

I have never gotten a sono directly prior to IUIs and never knew offices did sonos before IUIs.

Re: Out of curiosity...ultrasound gel
I'm not talking about IUIs so much. Since I had the LAP we've been doing natural cycles, but I still need ovulation monitoring because my cycle is wacky.
I had a sono a few hours after ...that's what made me think of it. Lo and behold it looks like the gel's not great for sperm and fertile CM..

from what i've heard it's not good for it. maybe they can use preseed instead?

I had a sono EVERY time before an IUI. How else would the RE know my follies are mature enough and ready to trigger unless they did a check prior to that step? I usually had a sono and if my follies were mature I would trigger right after and have then my IUI the next day.

I think with the iui the sperm is in some protective solution and gbypasses your cm where the gel would be though, no?

Right, it wouldn't effect the IUI. But if you were have TI around the IUI (which a lot of us do) that would be bad.

True, if they are like ok go home and then
Unless maybe it kinda dissapates immediately and melts away so it's not there by the time you

Re: Out of curiosity...ultrasound gel
For my 2 iuis i did not have an ultrasound just before. When the clamp and cathter were inserted it was done w/o gel. That is why it was uncomfortable.i I was given triggers for both. Needless to say, both times i got a BFN. For my ivf, on transfer day, they did an ultrasound above the belly and did not use gel on the clamp.
