Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
We've seen about 16 houses so far and have 2 more appointments. I feel like at that point we've really seen a good range. Just wondering on average approximately how many houses others looked at before finding the right one?

I'd say we saw hundreds. Bid on 7, 2 accepted offers, did inspections on 2 homes, finally in contract on the 8th house we offered on . . . it's a process.

We saw at least 100, maybe 150 within a year. We made offers on 5 I think. This is the furthest we got; we're doing the inspection next week and going into contract as soon as we can after that.

25 but we were in contract for one and the builder went bankrupt so it was a very drawn out process for us

4 or 5
We knew what our requirements were, what we were willing to compromise on and what we weren't, so that eliminated a TON right away just from MLS pics.

I would say we have seen 50 or so houses since August. We had accepted offers on 3 so far, 2 inspections which we walked away from and a third inspection coming up next week.

Close to this. We drove by 5-10. Saw about 15.
We knew exactly what we wanted so it eliminated a lot of houses.
Bid on one house and got it. We are in the process of mortgage, paperwork etc right now.

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
I think we saw at least 80, probably more. But we had a really hard time finding something suitable that we could afford because we bought at the peak of the housing market right before it dropped so we got a lot less for our money than we could have if we had waited. So it took us several months of constant house hunting to find something that would work for us in our price range.

About 20-30 between open houses and viewings. Made about 3-4 offers.

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
I bought my house before I was in real estate. DH and I casually looked at open houses and online for about a year before we were actually ready to buy. When we started looking for "real," we were educated about the market and very motivated to buy, so we looked for about a month and saw maybe 30 houses before we found the one we bought.
As an agent, I've seen buyers at both ends of the spectrum. I've had a few that I've shown 4 or 5 houses to, and they've bought a house. I've had others that I've worked with for 6 months or more (taking them out at least once a week), showing them probably 80 houses or so before they bought. And in both scenarios, the buyers wind up equally happy and satisfied with their purchases.
I think it depends on the buyers' personalities, whether they NEED to move or just want to move, how well they know the market, and also how broad or narrow their criteria are. Those who have the most narrow criteria (very limited budget or must be in a certain town or a certain neighborhood, or those who want very rare features) seem to buy quicker than those who have hundreds of homes available to them that potentially fit the bill.

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
We saw 33 houses over the course of about 2 months. We'd go out on weekends and see 4-5 a day. We quickly got an idea of what we wanted and didn't so it became easier. We were also limited in terms of area since we wanted to be within about a mile or two of my parents since I was pregnant and they were goign to care for my DS after he was born since I was working FT.
Once we saw our house I knew it was the one for us. We went back and forth on price, they said they had another offer (lies I think), we told them we were prepared to walk away, and then they agreed to our price.

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
We were looking on and off for 2 yrs until we sold our Co-op. So probably 100+ houses in 4 different areas in Long Island.
And we put 5 offers out. Outbidded the first 3 X

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
Actually went into 87. Drove by a dozen others, at least. Made an offer on two - the first seller decided to take the house off the market and the second seller wouldn't come down to what we thought was a reasonable price. Ended up building new construction...only way to get what we wanted. Process from first time out to move-in to new construction = 1 year and two weeks.

Re: Another house hunting question - how many houses did you see?
I've been looking on mls for a little over a year. We started going to open houses in the early summer to get an idea of what was out there and wasn't ready to purchase at that time. We saw about 50 through open houses.
As you know, we're getting ready to go into contract (hopefully tomorrow!) and this was the... 5th house we saw with the mind set that we're ready to place a bid. So I guess around 55.
