Do we have any recourse?? WWYD?
So as DH and I house hunt, we are still living in our 1 bedroom apartment. It's a co-op building, but we rent. Let's just say it has not been smooth sailing. We have had a few, fairly substantial issues that the super and management have not really responded to at all. For example, someone repeatedly smoking in the hall when it is clearly no smoking, the smell seeping into our apartment, and management throwing their hands up and saying "well we sent letters". The elevator has broken at least 15 times in the 1.5 years we've been here (and our building is configured so that there is only 1 elevator to each 'wing'). etc.
The latest: the heat. The building is older and the heat is loud, it clangs and hisses. Not a big deal, we have lived in old buildings and get it. But for the past 3 days (yes, my entire weekend) at around 6:30am it starts knocking, I mean HAMMERING, constantly, for over an hour. It actually sounds like someone is hammering the wall in our bedroom at 6:30am. This has not happened before. We mentioned it to the super, twice, and he actually said 'well, that means it's time to wake up!' Obviously we are going to call management - they're closed today - but with prior history I'm not hopeful. Is there ANYTHING else we can do? BIL was here yesterday to watch football and we told him about it and he said it sounds like there's air in the pipes, which is fixable but for such a large building is a big job they probably don't want to undertake.
Anyways, thanks for reading. I can't WAIT to get out of here, home ownership can not come quickly enough.

It happens to me too. Over the past 5 years, I've gotten used to it but it still wakes me up at 2am, then I fall right back asleep.
They tried bleeding the pipes (?) or whatever you call the things attached to the radiator. For me it didnt work but it might work for you. Maybe ask the super or mgt if they can try that.
It sounds like thats what your BIL was talking about but when they did it, it was just for my apt and they also did it for the ppl above and below me.
As for the elevators, you can always get the city involved. For smoking, a letter writing campaign. I'm sure you're not going to want to bother with that at this point though. GL!
