St. Lucia vs Antigua

We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon. We absolutely loved it. We loved the island, the people, the resort. We definitely want to go back.

While at Sandals, we booked a bounceback offer for this this year. Unless DH gets some amazing bonus we're going to postpone it to next year. At the time we booked Antigua, since they were actually kind of pushing it and the resort looked nice.

But at the same time I am toying with just going back to St. Lucia. Even though we did a lot of excursions (too many) I feel there's so much of the island we haven't seen.

On the other hand, I feel like we did WAY too many excursions on our honeymoon, and I've heard there's not much to do at all in Antigua, which might be good and force us to relax.

I really don't know how to stop moving. We usually go to Disney and we're up from dawn until 1am and always running.

Any thoughts?

palm trees and drinks on the beach... ahhh... now thats a vaca!

You need to take time out and just relax, unwind, forget about day to day life back home... if you need a vacation from your vacation... then it wasnt a vacation!!

Do you think Antigua would be better for this?

Re: St. Lucia vs Antigua

I did Sandals Antigua for my HM.
There's not a lot to do on the island.
We did a sunset cruise which was really nice and relaxing. Took a 3 hour tour of the island, visited Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour.
Shopping is eh.
The King's Casino is downright scary - check your guns at the door is what the sign says.

If you do go to Sandals, stay in the Mediterranean Village. Much nicer than the old part and it has its own bigger pool, closer to the restaurants.
Bring bug spray.

We are booked for the Med village.

We had a similar set up at St. Lucia where we were on the bluff, a newly renovated butler only area. We liked that quiet and seclusion. We're not into all of the drinking and partying

Is that the casino that they built just a few years ago? They were still building it when we went - we heard them hammering from our room all day (but it wasn't bad).

DH & I went to Sandals Antigua for our HM back in 11/07. We stayed in a private villa w/a plunge pool & jacuzzi so I can tell you that the accommodations & service were NICE (not that we'd ever get to splurge on that again!). Unfortunately, my dh was very ill for the entire trip (pneumonia), so I didn't do much of anything other than hang around the room & relax. I occasionally walked the grounds or would go to the beach for 30 min on my own if I felt comfortable leaving him (which wasn't often). While my experience wasn't typical, I can tell you that it was so peaceful & beautiful there...my dream is to go back one day to have a proper vacation. If you want a really relaxing trip I think it might be a good choice for you.

We were there 10/07, just 3 weeks after the Med Village opened. We had a terrible time (power outages, TA tours, terrible bar staff at the pool), but made the best of it.

King's Casino is in the town. I don't know what was being built next to Sandals but it was downright annoying to hear the constuction work every day.

we did Antigua for our HM... I didn't love it. Then again, I spent more than half the trip in bed and in the bathroom screaming in pain cause I got a parasite. Chat Icon

its beautiful, i guess i just expected more and better food at the hotel cause it was supposed to be more luxurious hotel. It also rained ALOT.

We did do a cruise to Barbuda and that was by far the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my life (but the water is choppy for the 1.5 hour each way and I was terribly motion sick both ways, so if you get sick, i don't recommend it). We were supposed to go ziplining in the rainforest and bummed we could not go cause i was too ill from the parasite.

Oh no - what a shame! By the time that we went there were thankfully no more power outages, but I can't comment on how the bar staff or the tours were. I'm pretty sure that it was a casino that was being built next door, but my memory isn't too reliable these days so I could be wrong Chat Icon
