Insulation
If you added insulation in your home, what kind did you use? (blown in, rolled in, etc) Did you do it yourself? If not, who's you use & would you recommend them?
Thx!

Re: Insulation
We added the blown-in insulation to our basement in the fall of 2010 and found it really made a big difference in our energy costs - plus our first floor felt much cozier and it's helped tremendously with sound insulation as well.
We used Delfino insulation - their price was reasonable but I found them to be very messy (ie they sprayed items I had in storage, and I expected them to shave down some of the excess but they didn't).
I should also add we couldn't do regular rolled insulation because our studs were not 16" on center, like they should've been. They were 16" on end, which meant the rolls wouldn't fit.

Re: Insulation
We put up rolls in the attic ourselves. It was a PITA becoz of the slope of our roof. We got the perforated covered kind from Lowes. For the perimeter of our home we got cellulose blown in by JC Home Care. They were really good and fast. They make holes in the outside walls though and pump the cellulose in between. We had a minor issue and they were very prompt in correcting it. Infact, we just received some tax forms from them becoz we might be able to deduct some of the cost!

Re: Insulation
we used Delfino insulation. Another good company is Cary insulation
we used fiberglass batts (rolls) on most of the house. we used spray foam on the ceiling of the garage(our bedroom was above it) and on the overhang in the back.
Guys who just do Insulation are fast,we did a whole house, and they were in and out in less than 2 days.
assuming you have a decent size area, it pays to get them to do it. they get the product in bulk, and really the installed cost isn't much more than the cost of the materials to you.

Re: Insulation
We used Hunter, they did a good job. Delfino quoted us too about the same, but we needed them to start earlier than they could.

Re: Insulation
DH did rolls in about half the attic. The rest of the attic has floorboards that are impossible to get so for that he is probably going to use the blown in. You can rent the machine at home depot...

Re: Insulation
Thanks, all! I'm going to call those that you all recommended & see what they say. I'm debating b/w batts & blow-in, so I have to see which actually saves more energy, & the price difference. How much energy did you actually save after you insulated?

Re: Insulation
For those who used Delfino, how much did you save in energy costs (heating, a/c) after the work was performed?

Re: Insulation
bought the rolls at home depot and did it the old fashion way....I have 2 attics and we did one attic each day, so 2 days total.
I feel a huge change in my house in the winter that is for sure!
