Moving to a new town - meeting people?

So DH and I are house hunting and planning to be in a new house by the summer (our lease is up then and we don't want to renew - so fingers crossed that works out for us). Anyways, we're moving to the town where DH grew up, but most of his friends no longer live there and he isn't so close to them anymore. I work in the city and obviously still have my friends who live in the city, but I'm wondering what sorts of things people have done to find people around their age in a new town to meet and get to know? Any suggestions? I'm especially thinking about when I get pregnant (hopefully in the next 18 months or so), to meet other young moms, etc.

I joined a local mom's club. Mom club is an international organization for sahm and ptwm. You can find your chapter from their website.
