Re: recipes that call for half and half
We always have half and half in the house for coffee and rarely keep milk in the house. I always use it in recipes that call for milk and just cut it with a little water. You could do a mac and cheese or cream based soup.

Re: recipes that call for half and half
Here's mom's recipe....it is the best....
MOM’S RICE PUDDING
Ingredients:
1 cup of sugar 3 eggs slightly beaten 1 teaspoon of vanilla 3 qts. Of whole milk 1 cup of Carolina Rice (not uncle bens long grain) 1 or 2 small box(es) of raisins cinnamon for topping
Directions:
1. Soak raisins in hot water for 15 minutes or more till they become soft......then drain them
2. Cook rice in milk......After milk boils put on medium and cook and stir continuously until rice gives off creamy texture and thickens........Do not add sugar at the beginning because it tends to burn quicker...........add sugar towards the end of cooking........on a lower heat, it can take close to an hour to cook.............What I do is cook and stir....but I don’t stand over it.............just keep a close eye on it......and stir every 5 to 10 minutes so that it does not burn.......make sure you use a non stick pot.............med to large size...............
3. Gently beat eggs and add vanilla and sugar.....(if you had not already added sugar to rice) (I usually add it to the rice while cooking because I feel that it makes the mixture thicken faster. But the true recipe suggests that you add it to the egg mixture after cooking rice.)
4. After rice is cooked, remove from heat and add egg mixture stirring rapidly as you add it....(If you do not do this, it could curdle and cook the egg)
5. Add the drained raisins and stir......
6. Pour into glass or plastic container........Preferably a 9/5 rectangle.....a little shallow.......
7. Then cover with sprinkled cinnamon.................Serve with whipped topping.......... Chill in refrigerator for several hours.......... I cover the container with plastic wrap.......................Unless I have a cover for it.............................. Enjoy

ooh, cool! do you have a recipe that you can share? mmm. i am getting hungry!
of course!
Ingredients Olive oil (or butter) 1 onion (or 2 shallots, preferred) chopped 2 cloves garlic, chopped crushed red pepper (just a pinch) 1 cup vodka 1 large can crushed tomatoes (or tomato puree) ½ pint heavy cream (can use marscapone instead) Use as much as you like to get to desired color and consistency... Prosciutto - 3-4 slices (sliced 1/4 inch think), grinded up in food processor or chopper, or cut into small cubes)
Sautee onion/shallot and garlic in olive oil until onions become translucent. Add crushed red pepper, proscuitto and vodka, let simmer for 5 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes. Leave heavy cream out on counter to warm, then add about 15 minutes after the tomatoes. Let simmer until you are ready to serve (best if simmered for atleast 20-30 minutes).
Recipe makes enough sauce for approximately 1 ½ pounds of pasta. You can Freeze extra sauce if desired.
