Both, actually! But I think no sulfates is more important... Not sure 100%. The L'Oreal line is really, really good. The smoothing one is my favorite, doesn't smell as strong as the others and works so nicely at keeping my hair soft and smooth.
I know with Keratin treatments the no sodium is more important.

Duuhhhh I'm originally blonde!!
I just prefer to use sulfate free... It's gentler. I was getting lots of broken hairs a while ago and attributed it to the harsh sulfates in the shampoos I was using. The genius in me never thought.. hmmmm maybe it's the flat iron!
I use the Enjoy line.. I like the hydrating shampoo and the conditioner is pretty good too.

Re: Educate me! Sulfate free or sodium free
I use Acure Organics (whole foods) and Kenra Platinum (beauty supply store or ulta) shampoo. Both products are sulfate free. I switch off and on with these and my other shampoos. A lot of people rave about Pureology and I used to use myself but not a fan anymore.
Your breakage issue may not be your shampoo but the products (color, hair dryer, styling, flat iron) that you are using. All these dry the hair and cause breakage. I always notice breakage at the roots after highlighting. Make sure to deep condition once a week to ensure that the hair is properly hydrated. I actually use olive oil as a deep condition treatment. Wet hair, warm about a 1/4 cup of olive oil in microwave, apply to hair (not roots) with fingers, blow dry (2-3min), throw in a bun, put on shower cap, let sit for 20-30 min and then shampoo hair. SO soft and moisturized. If you don't want to use olive oil, an easier alternative is the Joico K-Pak.
eta: go to a beauty supply store and ask for recommendations. i go to shapers in commack. the owner is SO nice and knowledgeable. they carry a lot of salon and high end supplies. prices are actually cheaper than ulta.

Re: Educate me! Sulfate free or sodium free
I use Organix Brazilian Keratin Therapy shampoo and conditioner. Sulfate and sodium free. I love it, keeps my color so much longer and it's cut down on the breakage.
