Malverne?

I know talking about specific towns ALWAYS cause a big stir on here. So i'm wondering if there are any teachers who work in the school district, people who currently live and/or send their kids (elementary or HS) to the schools in the district here. The town and neighbord is beautiful and the houses are priced right for us but I hear mixed reviews about the schools.

Any help would be great. TIA!

Re: Malverne?

This will definately start up some drama.
We lived in Malverne for 8 years. Just recently sold our house. We did not use the school district and my kids went to a catholic school outside of Malverne. I have freinds that teach in the district (younger grades) and they said we were craxy for not using the schools. More and more families are using the schools for the younger grades and then switching them at the middle school level. The schools are VERY diverse and the test scores speak for themselves (and they aren't as good as other districts) The bulk of Malverne kids go to private schools.

I will say when we were selling the number one concern for buyers were the high taxes and the school district.

The town is adorable and you get a lot of house for your money. That was a main reason we choose it to begin with. We never planned on being there forever. We wanted to move before our kids were in school. My oldest is in first grade now so we stayed a little longer than planned Chat Icon

Re: Malverne?

We are in the exact same situation - prices are right, town is lovely. For now we have ruled out Malverne, not because we are worried about sending our own kids (we would either move before any future kids started school, or send them to private religious school), but we are concerned about resale value and trouble selling when we want to.

We may reconsider if we can't find anything in Hewlett, Lynbrook, Woodmere, E. Rockaway or Oceanside. But it is far down the list for now. Even if the reality of the schools is different than the rumors, the rumors are enough to hurt resale potential, in our opinion.

DH and I looked at a few homes in Malverne, but would only consider the VS SD. My husband is a teacher in VS and this was his condition.
