What could be going on here? UPDATED

Jake has not been himself for about a week now. He won't drink his bottles no matter what I try. If I get him to drink an ounce or two it's alot.

He's also pretty cranky. But in a whiny sort of way, not like he's pain. For example, I bring him to the changing table - he cries everytime. And it's a fake whiny cry like "waaah, I don't wanna get my diaper changed right now". You can tell he's "fake" crying because a toy or anything will usually stop it but he's doing this for anything and everything pretty much: bedtime, naptime, bottle time, I pick him up/he doesn't want to be picked up, etc.

Now I'm getting concerned about the lack of fluids because he's constipated so I know that means he not getting enough. I think I'm going to call the pediatrican today because of that but do you girls think it could be something else? Teething? A phase? Ear infection? He's got no fever or other signs of illness. Are refusing the bottle and the crankiness related or unrelated?

UPDATE: So the Dr. called back and asked me to bring him in. He has an ear infection! Chat Icon So he's on Omnicef (antibiotic). I'm so glad I decided to call the pediatrician. Chat Icon Thanks everyone Chat Icon

ETA: BTW, the first thing she checked for was coxsackie.

It sounds like something is up. Will he let you look in his mouth? I'm wondering if he has Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (coxsackie.) Do you see any sores in his mouth?

If concerned about liquids, I would try giving him juice (if he likes it over milk) or frozen popsicles and even the pediacare pops.

It could be teething if he is refusing the bottle or maybe he is starting to come down with something. Is he drinking other fluids?

If he is constipated his belly probably feels full. When Antonio hasn't pooped yet he really does not feel like eating.

I hope he feels better.

He is still eating well and no fever which is what makes me think it's not cox sackie. He'll drink little sips of water from his sippy but he doesn't have that mastered yet so he can't get alot out -only an ounce or so.

I don't give him juice but the times I've tried he doesn't really care for it anyway. And he won't drink pedialyte either.

I guess I can try giving him water in his bottle, he might drink that because he loves water.

ETA: No sores anywhere either...

Re: What could be going on here?

I was thining coxsackie....or maybe even an ear infection... (sometime the s ucking can bother the ear) Ive learned not to always look for a fever- we had 2 ear infections and the croup and Ryan never got a fever with either....

and well all know teething takes the blame for a lot of things as well!

Bella didn't have a fever OR sores with her coxsackie...she had no appetite, and was VERY fussy, also with a very red, spotty throat and cough...careful, cuz they are super contagious and my family is STILL suffering from her spreading the germs...

No not yet, and I heard the same thing. Could definitely have something to do with that... how would I know though?

Sorry he has an ear infection, but good thing you went to the doctor, right?

I usually end up going when I'm worried about something even if I don't think it's com pletely necessary. I'd rather be safe.

I hope he's feeling better soon!
