long but I have a question

so a long time ago I borrowed a friends car to go to the store and the car didnt have good brakes and I went to stop at the stop sign and it was like pushing air and I went right through the stop sign and smashed into a truck.
well the driver of the truck had $14,000 worth of damage and I kept getting letters from the insurance company (I didnt answer them)
I later found out the owner of the car I was driving didnt have insurance on the car

so after a few months I got notices from a collection agency for $14,000 so I called them and told them I was broke (I was 19 at the time)
and it wasnt even my car
they told me to get a record from DMV proving I wasnt the owner of the car so I did and I havent heard anything in over 6 years!

does this mean I dont owe them money ? how can I tell if its on my record or whatever???

have you checked your credit report, if you do owe something it would say something.

there are websites where you can order a free credit report. just do a search.
