Did anyone ever have to replace an entire staircase?
I really hate our 1st-2nd floor staircase. It curves at the top and bottom and is very dangerous... especially for a small child. We were thinking about having it replaced so we have a flat landing at the top and the bottom. Has anyone done this? Around how much did it cost? Thanks!

Re: Did anyone ever have to replace an entire staircase?
We just had the entire stair and landing replaced in our hi ranch entry way (when you first walk in, there are 6 stairs up to the main house level and then 4 stairs to the lower level)... they did it all in a day, then it was another day to stain and polyurethane the wood (we did it to match our wood floors up and down).
I can't actually break down the cost because we had a ton of other work, including a new oak banister and railing put in as well, so our cost was a lump sum total for all the work they did.
I assume if you do the whole stair, you will also have to replace the railings too? I'd guess between $1K-$1.5K.

Thanks so much! $1-1500 seems doable... we were thinking that it would be $2500-3k! We also need to find a contractor. Who did you use?
It is a 13 step staircase and we have a white wood banister all the way up that we'd like to replace, too. When we had our house inspected, the inspector told us that the rails were too far apart and that it would be dangerous for small children. Now that we have our DS, we want to make sure it's as safe as posisble.

I had the entire stair replace and cost will depend on what you want, size and material. We also did not buy the railing from the stair company since it was cheaper for us to DIY from HD or Lowes. I can't remember the price but I didn't think it was that expensive but we also removed the old stair and installed the new stair ourselves.

Re: Did anyone ever have to replace an entire staircase?
it really depends on what you're looking to do and what is there.
I think you're talking about more than 1K easily. my guess is closer to 2-7K
in doing our whole house remodel, we replaced the stairs. its a straight 13 step run, we removed the stairs as part of another cost, but to actual cost of the stairs installed oak treads and painted risers, was 1900, the railings were a bit over 2K. the stairs were unfinished and an easy install. the railings and newel posts were a bit more involved.
we used "a step above stairbuilders" in Bellmore

Re: Did anyone ever have to replace an entire staircase?
We did this, once for the first floor to second floor and recently to add a new inside entrance to our basement. I think we paid $1800 the first time, but the second time we went through a contractor so I don't know the true price as it was all rolled in with the new basement. Each time we thought about doing it ourselves but considering one measurement could ruin the whole thing, we were more comfortable having them measured and cut by a professional, then we installed them ourselves. Like a PP said, cost will vary upon the materials. For ex., one of our sets is oak that we finished and stained, while the other is just from pine. GL!
