How do you find the right foundation color?
I always get one that's too dark or too light. Any tips?

I went to the make up counter and let them figure it out for me.

Got a tip from the makeup artist from my wedding. Get two colors and blend. I use one color thats a bit lighter then my skin tone and one thats darker. Just make sure its right for your undertone (cool, warm, neutral) This is also great because you dont need to buy new foundation in the summer if your skin gets tan.

If you're buying from Macy's or a department store, just go there and they will help you out. I highly recommend Estee Lauder, i've been wearing it for YEARS! I wear the double matte foundation, lasts a long time. The girls at lake grove Macy's are very helpful. Otherwise, any department store counter will have people there to try different colors for you.

this is what I do.. I have never been able to find any particular color that matches my skin tone exactly... and I'm able to play with it esp in the summer when I have more color and don't need to change my color palette

Re: How do you find the right foundation color?
If you are trying the color on, put it on your jawline in a vertical line & it should blend in.
Also, pay attention to the undertones (cool/warm) in it & in you skin.
If you are in a drugstore, find a mirror & hold the bottle up to your jawline.
The first non-drugstore makeup I ever splurged on was foundation, and it is definitely worth it. I would go to Lord & Taylor when Estee Lauder had a gift with purchase deal, so I could get a lipstick or make up bag or soemthing since I didn't normally spend that much money on makeup.
