not really sure if i belong on this board...

i've been TTC officially for just over a year now, with one miscarriage in august at 10 weeks... my ob/gyn does a decent amount of infertility testing/work-ups before sending you to a specialist - i remember this from working there. after a talk with my nurse practioner, i have an appointment scheduled on jan 12th for bloodwork and a consult, to start this process. she mentioned a hysterosalpingogram, a post coital and a SA for dh... i know what they all are... just wonder how long the beginning stages of this process last. i'm anxious to move along i guess. i know there are plenty of women that have endured much worse and more than i - but this has been an emotionally draining process all the same. i'm sure i will learn a lot more of what's to come at my appointment (i haven't worked there in 8 years so it's all a little fuzzy) but i guess any words of advice or guidance would be appreciated. what to expect etc. and, am i even at the stage where i should consider this board my new home? i feel like i've been on TTC for quite some time now... too long Chat Icon
btw, my name is krista - i'm 31 and live in suffolk and have great admiration for the strength all of you must have to endure this process. Chat Icon and nice to "meet" all of you.

First my gyn did b/w and an ultrasound. It basically took one cycle. Around the same time she wanted DH to go for an SA. When that came back with poor results, we basically stopped everything for me and started seeing a urologist for DH. That was almost 7 months ago...we start IVF next week.

I started seeing an RE about 3 weeks ago but I don't have any issues so I was "easy." I basically just needed b/w and a saline sonogram.

Everyone's journey is entirely different depending on what the issues you/your husband face.

Hey welcome Chat Icon I think you're taking the right steps toward finding out what, if anything is going on. You're going to find medical advice, emotional support and everything else in between here! Everyone is so nice and so willing to answer your questions :)

Choosing your own RE based on recommendation, location, and convenience is important (as are finances and insurance of course). The steps are almost always the same.... consultation, evaluation of results, and then they begin the treatment process which usually consists of iui then ivf for most people.

Best of luck on your journey! I hope it's short!

Re: not really sure if i belong on this board...

For me I started with my gyn with a SA and HSG...after 2 months of clomid with my gyn I moved onto an RE that my gyn recommended...When I first met my RE I brought all my records and we went over them and the best course of treatment...I have been seeing my RE now for 2 months but I am going to look into another since I have different insurance options...if you have the opportunity I would suggest seeing a couple of RE's so you can find the best fit for you...lots of luck!!!

Our timeline went like this: We went to a RE after a year of TTC. We already knew we had MF issues, but we were holding out hope that we could beat the odds, which did not happen. We had our consult September 1 and I had a sonogram and blood work done. We then waited until I got my next period. On CD 10, I had a HSG and my DH had a SA. We have been on hold since then because we were waiting for the new year (due to a high deductible). My next period should be here in 2 weeks. On CD, I will have blood work done again and then on CD 21, I will be starting Lupron.

Best of luck here and I hope your stay is short!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is jmo but I say skip over the ob and go right to an RE. They will do the tests you mentioned and more but they will treat you quicker. Its their job to get you pg and they monitor you very closely. Best of luck you too.

you would do this even if i don't know if there's a "problem" as to why i'm not getting pregnant? i guess, just from my own knowledge working there etc, i thought women would be referred to a specialist if there is some proven underlying factor as to why they aren't getting pregnant? maybe i'm naive...Chat Icon Chat Icon
