We just got back from Gran Caribe Real in early december..I bought a great deal on eversave.com for 3 nights at $330 total!! AMAZING deal.

It's a 5 star resort however i would say its closer to 4...we had a great time, and the place was clean and nice...its just certain things that make it less than 5. Its very noisy at night...you can hear doors slamming constantly till at least 2am..it was the weirdest thing, we were in an area too that was far removed from the lobby but you would hear BANG BANG every few minutes because the doors are heavy and slam quickly. That annoyed the hell out of me, DH didn't notice it as much.

The food was good...we were disappointed with marias (its a theme each night, the night we made reservations it was ALL seafood and i don't eat much seafood)...sunset grille was awesome. We ate there twice. Albatros wasn't good at all, we made the mistake of eating there once and never went back. The other restaurant that starts with a G (Gaviotas maybe ?? i don't remember) was great for breakfast...we ate there every morning.

The beach was great, the lobby bar was really nice. I wish they served more choices of beer (ONLY dos equis on tap) and sometimes they were in tiny plastic glasses. No bottles or other choices. We bought coronas at the local store and stocked them in the fridge ...
