Can you give me IUI cliffnotes?

Just got a call from the RE. We were given the green light to do an IUI cycle with clomid. Ahh, I've been trying to read as much as I can on here but it's hard when people are using a lingo they know to describe something they know to figure out what they mean.

Can you girls give me a little cheat sheet of what to expect and when to start. I am thinking that we will miss the next cycle because we haven't had a meeting with the doc yet and AF is due in a week or so.

You can get in at the next cycle if you see him by CD3 of your next cycle.

CD3- bloodwork to check base hormone levels and a sono to see if there are any folicles

CD3-7- Take clomid

CD10- folicle monitoring sono. (days can vary but its usually a week after you begin) If they see mature folicles (at least 18mm) they will have you trigger (shot caller Ovidrel or HCG hormone) or begin testing with opk for peak.

The day after you trigger (which guarantees O) you do IUI. Some Drs do it again the following day too. (back to back)

Then you usually wait until 13 days past IUI and go for a beta.

The IUI procedure isnt bad. It's pretty quick. They put a speculum in and shoot the stuff in lol. Sometimes its uncomfortable but its quick.

The day of IUI, DH will drop off a speciman an hour or 2 before your apt so they can wash it and spin it in some machine in a solution.

Re: Can you give me IUI cliffnotes?

i am just gonna say what we did when we did a clomid cycle last year..

took the clomid days 5 -9 of my cycle..went in every 3 0r 4 days to see how i was responding..

with clomid i never did..i switched t femara and had diff results but procedure was still the same..

when i was ready to trigger(a one time shot that makes u ovulate)i did late that night and then had b2b iui's

the iui is a simple procedure..for me similar to a pap

your dh will either go there or drop his sample off and they will do a procedure called "washing" the sperm which basically means they take the best ones..

u lay in chair..they clamp u open,insert and squeeze..in a nut shell

Chat Icon

it takes 5 min...then u lay there for 10 or 15 min..i had minor cramping as it is going in..like for a split second..then small pones throughout the day but i was 100 percent fine and able to go about the day

best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!

wanted to add the only side effect i had on clomid was hot flashes

I did one IUI with my RE, I took Clomid from CD5-9, then I went in for blood and sono about a week later, they continued to monitor me about twice a week until they saw I was having an LH surge (I O on my own so didn't need to take a trigger shot) I went in the day after my LH surge for the IUI and I also went in the day after for a 2nd IUI. DH had to come with me both days. The actual IUI was very quick! 5-10mins and if you didn't have any discomfort with the catheter for the HSG you shouldn't have any discomfort with the IUI.

Good luck!

Re: Can you give me IUI cliffnotes?

I've done 3 IUIs...on my 4th this cycle.

I took Clomid CD 4-6. (I react very strongly to it so I take a very small dose).

I've usually go back in twice again for bloodwork and a sono.

Around CD I get my HCG trigger than do the IUI the next day. It's a very quick procedure. I get a little cramping but thats it.

We also BD that night just to cover our bases!
