Negative.. need advice

Found out today (actually this morning first when I POAS'd) that my cycle didn't work. Beta results confirmed it. I am so bummed... I was having this gut feeling that it was going to be a BFP. So now I have done 2 IVFs and 1 FET, all with perfect embies, from both day 3 and day 5.

My problem is tubal (actually a dilated tube) which numerous studies say can be detrimental to IVF success because it can leak toxic fluid into the uterus. My RE was very hesitant to remove the tube (which seems to be the standard of care) because I've had two major bowel surgeries in the past and the surgery could be complicated due to scar tissue. He also didn't seem concerned about the tube causing problems and seemed optimistic. However, after my 2nd failed attempt my RE said we might have to revisit the tubal issue.. bc if everything was great with the embryos and my lining (and I am only 30 with no other known issues) then it could be the tube causing problems. So we gave it another shot with this fresh cycle, and BFN. I'm nervous to have risky surgery... but I also really want a baby.

I have my follow up in a few weeks and we are going to discuss what to do. Does anyone have any advice or experience with this type of situation? TIA.

First off, I am sorry about your BFN.

I have no experience with your issue, but before having a serious surgery like that, I would get a second opinion. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm so sorry! Personally, id look into getting a second opinion before going thru with the surgery, if just for peace of mind.

the surgery would probably be laproscopic right? if so, it will be a easier surgery (shorter, quicker recovery) than having to open you up. But still it is a surgery and you should maybe do some more research into it and get a 2nd opinion.

with my dx of endo, i have a lot of scar tissue also and when i had my lap it took a little longer than usual because they had to remove the scar tissue to get to the endometrioma (the reason i was having the surgery) but even with all my scar tissue my dr was still able to remove the endometrioma.

good luck with whatever route you chooseChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks ladies. So annoying that it has to come to this. The surgery would probably be laparoscopic but there's always the chance that they would have to convert it to open surgery if it couldn't be done laparoscopically. My dr is very, very conservative, and he also said we could just clip the tube shut if it was too difficult to remove it. He said he would also work with my bowel surgeon. At this point I think it's pretty obvious that the tube issue needs to be addressed, because of these repeated failed cycles. The studies say that if you do the surgery, then it restores your IVF chances to normal.

sounds like the tube issue does have to be addressed. Maybe you should seek a 2nd opinion from a RE that might be more aggressive?

Ellie, that is my thought exactly. If my RE still doesn't want to address the tube, I will definitely get another opinion. I have gone along with his plan for three cycles and it's obviously not working. Plus, I've read so many stories of girls with dilated tubes and multiple failed cycles, who then got the tube clipped or removed, and they immediately got pregnant on the next IVF.

Re: Negative.. need advice

I've had my tubes tied, but I don't think that is the cause of my BFN. I think my uterus and ovaries have been through hell since being on some sort of IVF meds since July. My RE wanted me to do a FET natural right after my failed FET medicated and I had to tell him no....my body needs a break and I wanted all the meds out of my system. I will try again, but now I am wondering if I am leaking fluids from my tied tubes why my embies are not implanting????

Re: Negative.. need advice

I have done a lot of research on tubes, and I don't believe that your tubes would be affecting your cycles. I think the problem with blocked tubes would be if they are blocked distally, close to the ovary, so that any fluid that accumulates can leak down into the uterus. That is my problem. When you have your tubes tied, I think they sever or shut them "proximally" right next to your uterus. So even if your tubes developed fluid, the fluid wouldn't be getting into your uterus and disrupting your embies. Did your dr do an HSG or any scans to look at the tubes?
