anyone go on Solodyn antibiotic for acne?

my acne started flaring up a month and half ago. i thought it was this clinque makeup i started using (I've used their concealers, but not foundation). i mean breakouts along the hairline, chin, cheek..ughh. Im 32 and having acne worse than when i was a teen.

the derm said its not the makeup but most likely stress :( and gave me an oral antibiotic called Solodyn for 6 weeks. Plus a cream called duac.

Im hoping there are no awful side effects to this stuff..if anyone has used it please share!

I am pretty sure Solodyn is minocycline, which is very commonly prescribed for acne. I was never on it, bc I always needed a stronger antibiotic for my acne, actually. Duac in combination with the antibiotics I was prescribed worked very well for me, so I hope you see similar results.

As far as side effects, unfortunately every drug has them. If you're prone to yeast infections you may want to consider taking acidophylis while you're on the minocycline, as that is a common side effect. Most likely, you should be fine!

yes i had a cyst and the doc gave me this. she said take it once a day for 4 to 5 days and then stop...and to only take it again in the same way if i had a flare up. not sure it helped bc she also used dry ice on the cyst as well. could have been a combo effect to help clear it up.

I was on minocycline for cystic acne in my early 20's.
I have to say- it cleared it up amazingly.
Within a week of being on it, my family noticed a huge difference
I was only on it a few months- and the cystic acne never came back
After I went off it I maintained with Differin gel and some other topicals
I will occassionaly get a cyst here and there- but nothing like what happened in my early 20's- just out of the blue like that.

I had no bad side effects from it- the only thing is - being on an antibiotic long term gave me some RAGING yeast infections! My doc gave me a script for Diflucan (the oral yeast infection med) and i just filled it when needed.
Other than that- it was great!

Yes, I was on Solodyn earlier in this year--I believe 65 mgs?

It was stress and hormones for me. I can say that it helped me a lot. My skin is doing a lot better now, and I'm off the meds.

I had no side effects at all.
