Re: What is the difference

It really depends on your specific situation. For my first transfer, we only had 4 embryos. It wasn't worth the risk to wait and see how they progressed to a day 5 because embryos have the potential to do better in the womb than in a dish. If there aren't a good amount of embryos or if the quality doesn't look so that it will make it to a day 5 in the lab, then it's transferred back at a day 3.

For my next fresh cycle, we had 25 embryos and ultimately 14 that made it to day 5. Because we had soooo many embryos to work with, it was worth it to watch them and see how they progressed so we knew for sure what the quality was at the blastocyst stage and we knew we were putting in the best quality embryos of the bunch.

I have gotten pregnant from a day 3 and a day 5 transfer. They are BOTH effective and both get people pregnant everyday!! It really depends on your situation for what's best!!

Oh it's not your cycle days it's days outside of the body essentially, that makes sense now. Thanks.

Re: What is the difference

Yup, it's the number of days they are "grown" or "watched" after the retrieval. Chat Icon

Yes, days outside the body...they push to day 5 if they need more time to figure out which embies are the best.
