tool/gadget substitution
what can i use to substitute a ricer or food mill?
can i simply mash it?
i'm looking to make cuban buñelos for christmas, but the recipe calls for putting the yuca and malanga (both root vegetables) through a ricer or food mill.
will simply mashing them give me a similiar result?
i remember my mom making these, and she never owned a ricer or food mill... so i'm guessing i'll be ok, but wanted to double-check with you guys.

You can use a regular potato masher. The ricer or food mill makes the mash finer.

Never tried, but what about a strainer? - since it has the small holes or a colander?
