Recipe calls for bundt pan... but make in regular?

I'm looking to make a rum cake. Seems that all recipies say to use a bundt pan. I dont have a bundt pan and prefer not to get one just for this one cake.

Has anyone used a regular cake pan when a bundt pan was in the recipe? I wonder if its just a 'tradition' thing, or if they say bundt pan because more surface area is necessary for baking?

Thoughts?

It's fine. You might have to change your baking time or temp, but that's it.

ETA: To find that out, I'd just google let's say "13x9 rum cake" (or whatever size pan you're using) to see what temperature they bake it at.

You can do it.. but (for me) one of the best parts of the rum cake is the sugar rum icing. With a bundt cake pan it covers more per slice and pools at the bottom so the bottom of the cake is soaked with goodness. Bundt pans are really fairly inexpensive and you can use them year round. I made a Vanilla Chai spiced butter cake with a Vanilla drizzle in the fall. Over the summer we did more than a couple of Lemon cakes with lemon icing drizzle. Also Chocolate Expresso bundt cake with vanilla drizzle They are nice and seem very 'grown up'.
