Cleaning Service: unsure if I'm being overcharged?

I just hired a service that came highly recommended to me and is used by a number of my neighbors, but I can't help but wonder if I'm being overcharged. My neighbor said she was paying $120 weekly (2 hours), but she hasn't used him regularly in a couple of years (only before parties & holidays now.) He quoted me $130 and my home is smaller. Plus he didn't have a lot of availability time wise, so it was either Monday or Saturday @ 10:30am. Chat Icon The main reason why I wanted a cleaning service was because I have guests almost every weekend.

I so wish my DH was around. He would have negotiated a better deal and gotten me a Friday cleaning! LOL Chat Icon

I see other threads where girls are paying 60-80 for their cleaning service. I used to pay 85, but they didn't do all that great of a job, which is why I ultimately canceled the service.

I hired the service because the idea of trying to find someone, and someone good, could take me a couple more months and I'd like some help before the holidays arrive. I asked another neighbor about her service, but when she checked with them, they said they had no availability.

Ugh. I guess this is more of a vent than a question. I'd probably have less "buyer's remorse" if they had Friday available. Chat Icon

Re: Cleaning Service: unsure if I'm being overcharged?

For 2 hours? I cannot imagine a cleaning service being able to clean in only 2 hours..

For my cleaning service's first time, they were there about 6 hours to do a thorough clean up and then when they came, they were there about 4 hours.

I would just go back to him and tell him that your neighbor pays less and her home is larger than yours.. you can def haggle with him. I would also tell him YOUR availability. When does he clean your neighbors homes? try and schedule at around the same days/times as them

Was this one person or multiple people? This service uses 3 people, as did my last one and they took 2 hours as well. I'm assuming this current service will take 2 hours, he never specifically stated how long it would take him. My neighbor was saying she paid 120, so to expect 60 an hour for the 3 men. Her house isn't significantly bigger, just has another .5 bath and larger master bedroom suite.

I tried to push him on the day issue, even for a Thursday, but it was a no go. He initially told me Sat @ noon and I had to push for earlier.

I don't know exactly when he's in the neighborhood (it's fairly large), but I see his vehicle often (I didn't know it was him until today. It's yellow, so it's hard to miss. Chat Icon ) My neighbor who recommended him to me told me the other neighbors who used his service, but they're not neighbors that I converse with, it's just hi/bye stuff.

I'm so torn. I was hoping for an early Saturday cleaning, like starting at 8am or so. And I feel like a Monday cleaning defeats the purpose because my house will be trashed by the weekend. Chat Icon And it doesn't help that I'm "nonconfrontational." I usually make my DH do my dirty work, but he's overseas. Chat Icon

Well that DOES make a difference then.. I've always had 1-2 people at a time but really only 1.

J, if he wants your business, he should be flexible.. I would just come out with it and tell him that such and such neighbor pays whatever and that if he matches the price, then it's a deal.
