Riu Palace Tropical Bay - NEGRIL - review
We just got back last night from 7 days in Negril, Jamaica. It was an amazing vacation!
I couldn't get over how blue the water was at our resort. I felt like we finally found something that rivaled our HM in Antigua...at half the price! Unfortunately the weather changed a bit and the water got rough the last few days (but that apparently isn't normal this time of year)
Anyway, the Riu was great and I would definitely stay there again. We had an oceanfront room, which I think is totally worth it. I could see how the atmosphere was totally different for the rooms closer to the road, and a lot noisier.
The few negatives would be the dinner reservation system. You have to get up at 8am and wait on a line for about 20 minutes or longer. You can make reservations for 2 nights, so we only had to do this twice. It was worth it though, cuz the specialty restaurants were pretty good. The buffet definitely would've gotten old if we weren't able to mix it up! The other thing that bothered us were that they don't have king size beds...its two full size pushed together and nothing holding them together. So we basically slept like Lucy and Ricky in separate beds lol.
Otherwise, the grounds are beautiful and really well kept. The staff was really friendly and helpful. And again, I couldn't get over how gorgeous the beach was! We never had a problem finding lounge chairs either. The locals are pretty cool and do sell stuff on the beach. But a simple "no thank you" and they smile and move on.
