No your not being unreasonable! Just tell her it means alot to you and DH to be able to keep the costume so you would rather have your own. I had my DS in two costumes for his first halloween. One in the day and one at night for trick or treating. If you really feel weird you can borrow it, put it on your DC take a few pics, and then put DC in the costume you purchased.
