Just curious to see what most of you have....

We have semi-gloss. I've heard it's easier to maintain/clean.

Eggshell. It's a nice compromise between the look of matte, but the cleanability and durability of semi-gloss.

I use flat everywhere except the kitchen and bathroom. Those are eggshell and then all trim is semi gloss.

Re: What paint finish are your walls?
When I bought my new house, I painted the master bedroom with eggshell. My (much richer than me, and kind of snobby) friends at work mocked me for this and told me I'd regret it. Apparently, it's classier to paint your house matte. I'd lived my whole life in apartments, which were always eggshell and they told me that it's because they're easier to clean which is the priority in rentals.
Another friend gave me as a baby shower gift a professional painter to do my nursery. This guy usually paints million-dollar homes on the north shore. He asked me to choose a color, and then just went out and got it in matte.
So, I guess matte is "classier" (WHY??? So dumb) but eggshell is easier to clean/maintain.

Re: What paint finish are your walls?
matte.
Once we have kids we'll prob paint their rooms eggshell or satin for maintenance.
The matte scuffs sooooo easily. Forget trying to clean it. I spilled red wine all over my beautiful white carpet, and when the glass fell it splattered my walls and my silhouette blinds.
It was harder to get the wine off the WALL. We had to touch it up with paint.

Flat or matte: A friend to walls that have something to hide, flat/matte soaks up, rather than reflects, light. It has the most pigment and will provide the most coverage, which translates to time and money savings. However, it’s tough to clean without taking paint off with the grime.
Practical application: adult’s bedrooms and other interior rooms that won’t be roughed up by kids
Durability: medium-low
More fun sheen facts
Dark, richer paint colors have more colorant, which boosts sheen. If you don’t want a super-shiny wall, step down at least one level on the sheen scale. Ditto if you’re painting a large, sun-washed or imperfect wall.
Adding sheen also adds price: Valspar Ultra Premium eggshell costs $32, satin $33, and semi-gloss $34.

Hmmm.... according to this site, matte is cheaper to buy, and cheaper to put on, is used to hide imperfections, and doesn't have as vibrant a color. To me, that sounds like eggshell is a "richer" sheen than matte.

Re: What paint finish are your walls?
eggshell everywhere except the master bedroom which is matte. I'm not a fan of matte. I understand the appeal from an aesthetic point of view, but it's just not practical for our household.

Re: What paint finish are your walls?
eggshell as it is easier to clean and I don't think you can really see the sheen.
