SO PO'ed - First day of demo
So today is my first day of demo and the crew threw out my stove, dishwasher and microwave! UGH! I spefically asked the contractor to save the dishwasher.
The dishwasher is stainless steel and only 1 year old!
The stove and microwave are abit beat up and can be reused or trashed but I'm so upset that they threw out my dishwasher!
Why are contractors so wasteful? What would you ask for compensation? The total cost of the dishwasher?

I'm not sure if they'll agree to compensate you for the dishwasher, but I'd ask for the cost to replace it -- considering you had specifically asked him to save it.
I wish more contractors/homeowners used ReStore for Habitat for Humanity in Ronkonkoma. I understand it takes extra time to carefully demo so the equipment/appliances/cabinets can be saved, but it keeps them out of the landfills.

Yes, they should compensate you. You specified something and they didn't listen! That is such a waste! There are so many people on free cycle or craigslist that would come and pick up used appliances, it's a same to see them go in the garbage!

I told my contractor that I was donating some of my stuff to ReStore, so he made sure his crew was careful about the windows and some other odds and ends that they removed. It's not universal that all contractors are wasteful, but it is the majority of them, I think.
