Rats!

Anyone else have rats? A few months ago i though i saw a rat in my back year but convinced myself that it was a squiral with a thin tail. Today my mom was over and saw a rat in the backyard too. My sister said she saw her dog in her back yard playing with a dead rat a few weeks ago. We both live in the same town. How do i get rid of them? Call an exterminator?

My neighbor had a rat a few years ago and our whole neighborhood was worried about it. She hired an exterminator, and they told her the rat most likely 'arrived' by dumpster - one if our other neighbors was having some construction done and had rented a dumpster. Anything like that going on in your immediate area?

That's interesting. My nextdoor neighbours just had a dumpster and the people a few houses down just had one too! I feel so much better now. I thought if I saw one rat then there were probably hundreds of rats I didn't see. I was so freaked out!

Have any of your neighbors been making changes to their yard - getting rid of a shed or deck, etc? The house behind my BIL's tore down a shed and found a rats nest under it. The homeowner called an exterminator to take care of it but my BIL & his wife had to put a treatment on their lawn to try to keep them off their property, I think the exterminator was concerned that they would move to nest under my BIL's deck otherwise.

ughh! We have rats in our area due to a sump at the bottom of our road. I called an exterminator and they wanted $500 for 2 months of treatment. My neighbor across the street has trapped and killed over 50 in the past year. And I see the exterminator truck around the block all the time. I just took a kitten from my mom and he is now my exterminator outside. Hope he deters the rats from my yard.
