Washer/Dryer
What is the benefit of the front loading washer and dryer over the top loading washer and dryer?

Re: Washer/Dryer
Front loaders don't have agitators, but now they make top loaders without them. I would stay away from a front loader if you are buying new as they tend to have mold/smell issues cause water gets stuck by the door. We just got a new top loader with mathing dryer and LOVE it!!
dryers do not come top loading... only front!

We got ours because they stack and I needed the space.
And in 2.5 years I have never had a moldy smell or any smell issues.
Mine are faster and clean better than any other washer and dryer I have had. I would never go back to top loading.

Re: Washer/Dryer
I bought new front loaders a couple of months ago... Went with LG... nothing special on it like steam though... I use only the basic features so it made no sense to get a higher priced one with all the bells and whistles
That said, I love my machines! The front loaders use a lot less water... Its actually quite amazing how clean the clothes get with such little water and detergent (since you have to use HE)... The washer also spins so fast that the clothes come out rather dry = less drying time... I also was able to stack mine so that there is more room in our utility closet... best decision ever made!

Re: Washer/Dryer
DH surprised me with a new front loader steam washer and dryer from LG last year. I LOVE them. The clothes comes out very dry and the washer uses very little water and is very energy efficient (washer). I also use much less detergent since it's HE and it lasts me a while (and I do lots of laundry).
I have never had an issue with a moldy smell coming from my washer and we have it in the garage. A tip I was given by a neighbor when he saw the delivery was to always dry the plastic rim of the washer once you are done. I keep a small hand towel by the washer and when I'm done I simply quickly dry the door and the plastic rim. Takes 30 seconds.
