Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

What are you making for Thanksgiving that doesn't involve the word "spice," pumpkin, sesame or nuts of any kind? Chat Icon

I'm making Thanksgiving this year - it's just going to be 6 adults, 1 child.

We're doing-
Turkey
Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potatoes with marshmallow
Baked macaroni and cheese with breadcrumb topping
Cranberry sauce

What about for dessert? Want some ideas that aren't TOO complicated because I'm making everything else OR ideas that I can ask my BIL & SIL to bring (but their 16 year daughter will be making itChat Icon)

Re: Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

I'm not doing the cooking, nor the baking, but MIL usually (besides pumpkin pie) has apple pie, coconut custard pie and pecan pie for dessert.

Apple crisp/Peach cobbler? Easier than a pie and yummy!

Philadelphia cream cheese has a great no-bake cheesecake recipe on the box that's pretty good.

Chocolate cream pie--mix choc pudding and whipped cream in a premade graham crust.

Angel food cake with whipped cream and fresh berries

Re: Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

I hate everything pumpkin! lol

We are making
-white chocolate raspberry cheesecake with oreo crust
-nutella tart (but you could make a fruit one since this has nuts)
-italian pastries, including cannoli
-My moms making pumpkin bread pudding but you can take out the pumpkin

You could also do apple pie, or some yummy cupcakes.

eta i just read you said not too complicated- i dont think any of these are simple unless you do a fruit tart with graham cracker crust.

LOVE the cheesecake idea. I can definitely do that and we all love cheesecake! Chat Icon

Maybe I will do a simple cheesecake and an apple crumb pie (so I don't have to worry about a lattice crustChat Icon)

Re: Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

I'm the guest this year, so I'll be bringing my cream puffs and some sort of cake - a simple yellow cake with chocolate frosting decorated with candy corn, or a marble bundt cake with chocolate drizzle.

Those are awesome ideas!

Do you have recipes?? I don't have a bundt pan though... but maybe recipes for the cream puffs?

Re: Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

Easy version of trifle that another LIF mommy got us all hooked on. Layer Hershey Chocolate syrup, fresh whipped cream and crushed chips ahoy cookies. Keep repeating until you reach the top of the bowl.

Re: Thanksgiving dessert - hold the pumpkin

cream puffs

1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup water
1 stick unsalted butter
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch salt

preheat oven to 400
Heat water and butter in a medium saucepan until mixture is simmering. Take off heat and add in flour and salt all at once. Put back on heat and stir vigorously until mixture forms a ball.

Dump mixture into a mixing bowl and let cool slightly (I usually run the mixer on low to let the dough cool off a bit). Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, thoroughly mixing after each one.

Drop dough by spoonfuls (however big you want to make them) or pipe into balls on an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

Slice open immediately after removing from oven to let out the steam, other wise the puffs will be soggy. Serrated knife works best. Cool and fill.

I fill with a vanilla pudding/whipped cream mixture. The pudding has to be a thick set one or it will be too runny.
Or you can fill with ice cream or pastry cream.
Dust the tops with powdered sugar or
drizzle melted chocolate on top.

I was going to suggest Cheesecake too. I'm also making a blueberry pie and an apple pie.
