How old was your baby...

When they were able to hold the bottle??? I use the Dr. Browns' wide neck bottles and i'm thinking maybe they are too thick for him to get his little hands around. I tried switching to the thin ones but i think the nipple is different and he wont drink it. Oh well... just wondering at what age they start holding it????

I use Avent bottles which are pretty big. DS could hold it at around 8 months, he just refused. Chat Icon I still like to give it to him most of the time even though he holds it just fine. Chat Icon

Miranda held her bottle very early, 3 or 4 months I think. I think most babies do it later like 6 or 7 months Chat Icon For some reason DH felt the need to practice that with her from early on so he didn't have to hold it. Chat Icon

Alex holds her bottle now (skinny Dr Brown's), but she doesn't lift it to get the formula to drink it.Chat Icon

It was the same for us. While Christopher COULD hold it around 6 months (we used Dr. Brown's), he preferred not to. He would hold it for a little while then look at us like "okay...your turn." It wasn't until he was standing/walking (Between 9 and 10 months) that he really started holding it completely on his own.

Emily only started around 7 months or so. She didn't understand until then that she had to tip it back.

I think shep robably could have figured it out earlier and just didn't want to. Even though she can do it we usually hold her anyway for her bottle feedings since it's good cuddle time!

hand it to him, if you don't hold it for him he will have to learn to hold it

I use the wide neck Dr Browns too and Hayley started holding it around 8 months.

eta: not because she couldn't, because she was lazy Chat Icon

Re: How old was your baby...

Bella was soooooo lazy...she could definitely hold it, but chose to have us do all the work for her until after 8 months...I would say after 9 months she finally realized that she had to do it all herself when I would sit her on the couch next to me and give it to her...

DH is the worst, he likes cuddling her, so he'll still have her lay on his lap and do it for her Chat Icon Chat Icon

I just plop her on the floor and put in front of her...she knows what to do...

DS was SOOO lazy that he NEVER DID IT. He could hold it but choose not to. He went from bottle to cup w/ soft straw at age 11-12 months. Of course he held the cup himself from the get goChat Icon I guess he figured it was our job to hold the bottle for him Chat Icon Chat Icon

One son uses the skinny bottles and the other the big bottles, and the skinny ones are easier for them to hold and he was holding ti around 9 months, but not 100%.

Now at 11 months they both hold them totally by themselves, but they could have done it earlier, they just didn't want to.
