Hoping and praying for lots of follies!

Hi Ladies...I am doing a fresh IVF cycle and started my stim drugs last Thurs. night. Today I saw my RE for monitoring, and he seemed a little discouraged by my progress. I've been hoping, wishing and praying so hard that this cycle is going to be it for me and I had such a good feeling all weekend. I've been doing absolutely all I can to make this happen and since this is the first cycle where my autoimmune issues are being treated, I've been really hoping this will be my cycle. I was just wondering how many follies some of you ladies have had at this point, today being day 5, and if I have real reason to think things might turn up and that when I go back on Wed. there will be a whole lot more follies there. I'm just trying so hard to stay positive, but it's hard when the dr. himself looks disappointed. I believe I had 4 follicles, 2 on each side, that measured 12 and several smaller. He said he sees me getting about 10 eggs at this point, which isn't great, since only a small percentage of my eggs tend to fertilize normally. I make myself crazy analying this, like we all do! I know it only takes 1, but I'm so nervous. Thanks!

Yeah, this is our 4th fresh cycle and we've done ICSI each time.

Usually what you have at the first visit is pretty indicative of what you'll end up with. We had 8 follies at our first visit and ended up with 11eggs, 10 mature.

If your doctor expects you to end up with ten, you must have a bunch of smaller ones he thinks will catch up. Ten is great. I have issues with poor fertilization too- we only got 3 fertilized this last cycle. I was convinced it was over- but I am currently almost 11 weeks

Congrats to you!! That's wonderful!..I actually feel a little bit better bc I looked over my old records last night and saw that from my very first cycle, I had 11 eggs and ended up with 3 embryos, so that would work. As long as they actually stuck, that is! I'm still hoping for more tomorrow, but I'm bringing back the positive attitude to help grow those that are here already! Thanks for the support!

You just never know with each cycle. My cycles were always crappy with 1-2 eggs fertilizing and on IVF#4 I got 8 fertilized. I honestly thought they confused me with someone else. If your meds are changed up it could be a totally better situation for you. Though for me, it was easier just to hope for 3 and if I got more it was a bonus. I'm kind of surprised your doc would be disappointed by what he saw already. Did he say something direct or are you assuming??? Its still so early. I am sure you will have more. Anyway, try to stay positive because being negative and stressed out doesn't feel good. Today is supposed to be a beautiful day try to get outside and get some fresh air if you can.

I agree with PP's, it might be too early to tell. I was told I had 5-7 Follies between days 3-12, so I was told to expect around 5-8 eggs. BUT on day of retrieval, they found more follies and were able to retrieve 26 eggies. So you never know. GL!!

Thanks so much for the support ladies! My hopes are back up and I actually just got back from a nice long walk on this beautiful day like one of you suggested. To answer the question about the dr. seeming disappointed, no, he did not actually say he was. I kind of just gathered that from how he seemed and the fact that he could already say at this point that he thinks I'll only have 10 eggs. That and the fact that he said my retrieval will probably be pushed back a little based on where I was yesterday. I was put on a higher dose of meds then ever before with the hope of producing more and since I've produced up to 16 in the past, 10 is . BUT, it's still early like some of you said so hopefully they'll do some serious growing in the next few days! AND, just because they're fewer in number doesn't mean they can't be greater in quality. 1st cycle I had 25 eggs retrieved, hyperstimmed, which was awful. Next cycle, my new doc and I purposely aimed for about 10 eggs. Although we go much fewer than the first round, I am currently 37w So....more doesn't always mean better quality. Wishing you lots of luck!!!

Good luck!! I had 9 eggs my first cycle.. 6 embryos.. we transferred on day 3 and I got pregnant with triplets, but I lost all of them (unrelated to IVF). Anyway, it just goes to show the quality is what matters most!!

Thanks Penny, but I'm so sorry for the loss of your triplets!! I lost identical twins so I can relate unfortunately....I'm going to Dr. Braverman now after several years with ECF.

Gotcha...FET is a lot less stressful on the body so hopefully that's exactly what you need to do the magic trick. GL!!
