The freakin' sippy cup...

Bella is rejecting the cup. She will only play with it and won't drink anything consistent out of it if she does anything at all...I have the Nuby...
I have tried others too to no avail...

I am starting to wean her to milk and need her to start the sippy more...

I tried to even bribe her and put some apple juice in it, but she doesn't LIKE it...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

I solved the riddle as to why Christopher was rejecting his sippy. We had the Nuby as well and he didn't like the spill-proof valve. I guess it was too much of an effort for him to suck on it. I ended up getting a Gerber one with a removable spill-proof valve and he took to it right away. Of course, there were lots of spills as well. Now that he likes his sippy and he's used to it, I started putting the valve back in, and he's absolutely fine with it now. Also, after trying lots of different types, we discovered that he doesn't like fat sippy cups or ones with handles.

ETA: The Gerber ones that he likes are the new Sip and smile ones (the 10 oz size)

Have you tried a soft straw one? Miranda likes those because she doesn't have to tilt them to drink. I just kept giving it to her and eventually she took to it.

hmmm Aidan liked the Nuby's, but he also would take any kind.

The Nuby you have, is it the silicone tip or the hard plastic one?

I would start with the softer one as a transition, then maybe try a hard tip sippy.

Or what about the kind with the flip up straw? They are actually better for speech and teeth too.

She may not be ready to give up her bottle, maybe wait a few weeks then try again.

Jack loves these as well! We just switched last week as per Dh thinking the Nuby's were too much like a bottle.

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

I got the Nuby's because it was softer after we tried the Gerbers (I don't know which ones those are specifically)

she doesn't mind both...to chew on, but she won't actually drink anything significant with them and I wanted to start replacing a bottle with a sippy...

This is what we use for Jake too. I tried all the sippy cups out there and he hated them all. Then I tried the one with the straw and he loved it. Definatly worth the try.

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

Emily also doesn't take much from her sippy cup. She doesnt' reject it, just maybe gets 1/3 out of it in a whole day. I dont' know what it is. I think they are hard to get something out of, but the amount she is getting has increased. I'm hoping that by the time we wean her from the bottle she'll be better at it.

Here is the new Gerber Sippy that Jack and Christopher like.

Disregard the fact my son is showing off how many fruity cherrios he can stick in his mouth at once.

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

DD hates all sippy cups....She was using the cups with the straws on it...but she found out that is much more fun to turn that upside down and watch the liquid come out.....

Now I buy the little Dannon sports bottled water. I only open it up a little and she drinks out of it. The water has flouride in it too! (I only found out a couple of months ago that LI water does not have flouride in it.

Poland spring has the same bottles, but you can't open them up to re-fill it.

I get the Dannon ones and I can put milk or juice or more water in it.

Taylor will drink out of a regular cup...it's messy...she is getting the hang of it, but most of it winds up on her shirt

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

My son isn't digging the sippy cup, either. I have the Gerber and Avent hard spout and about 5 Nuby soft spouts. Chat Icon I just bought him the Nuby straw one last week and he's totally loving it. Chat Icon I should have known better since he's been drinking out of his brother's straws for 2 months. Chat Icon I hope his transition is as easy as his brother's was.

Anyhooo, I also suggest the Nuby straw cup. Chat Icon

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

Hayley only takes certain cups..she likes the Avent one. If the spout is too big she won't drink from it. She likes the slender spouts like on the Avent and the Gerber one posted above

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

DS NEVER liked the sippy cup. We basically went from bottle to the cups with soft straws. He picked up on the concept very quickly - He was around bella's age or a little younger

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

Definitely try the straw cups. Jesse took to those before the sippy cups. The Target brand actually has a little valve inside the straw so that it won't spill much. Although they're not very cute and kind of plain, they are very functional.

Re: The freakin' sippy cup...

We just introduced the sippy cup at 5 months and DD loves it - so much that she wants it over her bottle at times .
At what age did you all introduce the sippy cup?

At first we added a few ounces of cold water and I think it soothed her gums- she couldn't get enough of it - my doctor suggested to start adding formula to it which we do occasionally and DD takes to it just the same.

I have to try the straw cups now - i guess its never too early to start - even if she starts playing with it at first - she will eventually get the hang of it.

Genevieve wont drink out of a sippy cup either. She wont even TRY. She can already drink out of a regular cup if someone holds it for her, so I think we are gonna just skip the sippy cup....
