care of wood burning FP?
we just bought out house in July. We have a wood burning FP in the den.
What sort of maintenance does a WB FP need? Anything we should do before we use it?

Re: care of wood burning FP?
Thanks for posting this! We have one in our new house and I'm so nervous to use it!
One tip we received was to look for free fire wood listings on craigslist.

Definitely have it inspected and cleaned before first use.
I have a wood burning FP in my den and we use it almost every other night during the winter. We get the chimney cleaned/inspected every 2 years. My DH insists we don't need to do it every year!

Re: care of wood burning FP?
I was told to have the chimney cleaned for every cord of wood burned. We go through half a cord every year so we have ours cleaned every other year.
Be sure to only burn hardwood such as Oak. Soft woods like Pine have a lot of sap which isn't good - creates lots of soot in the chimney.
