Paint chipping a lot in the kitchen
The paint in my kitchen is chipping SO much. I'm not talking a little, I'm talking 2 huge cracks going right through the plaster and pretty much everywhere else the paint is chipping, the walls and the ceiling. My MIL had this above her stove really bad but we have it everywhere. Not only does it look really bad but it keeps getting worse and worse and it makes me nervous because the house is pre war and the likelihood of their being lead paint under the current coat of paint that is chipping off is very high and I have a 14 month old and although I always have my eye on him, a tiny chip that flakes off onto the floor can easily be picked up and put in the mouth in seconds or get stuck on socks or feet when walking and dragged into other rooms like his play area and he can pick it up and eat tiny chips or they can get on his toys. Or chips can fall into my food or the cat food.
Should we just paint it or talk to the landlord? Should they be responsible for painting it? I know you can't just paint over it. It needs prep work like the big plaster cracks need some plaster work and sanded out, and the paint cracks probably need some type of prep too. It seems like a lot of work for a home we don't even own kwim?

A coat of paint wont fix it. It will need to be replastered and repainted. I would talk with the landlord, and ask him. Maybe you can split the cost.

The landlord is responsible, not you
