glucose test?
I have seen some postings about RE's ordering glucose tolerance tests. My RE did not order one of these for me even though I have known blood sugar issues (not diabetic, but my fasting sugar is on the high side and I have had issues with glucose tolerance issues in the past). I am curious why RE's are ordering this test? Thanks!

Re: glucose test?
its usually an indicator of PCOS. it sounds like your Dr. shouldve ordered it esp if you have a history of issues there.

Re: glucose test?
I actually asked my doctor for the test since its another indicator of PCOS...my tolderance was actually normal so when I went to my RE he said there was no need to put me on metformin like he would for some other patients with insulin resistance.
I would ask your doctor to perform the test...I found the test unpleasant since its a 3 hr fasted test and you have to drink this sugary drink every hour...I was so light headed and nauseous afterwards that I took the rest of the day off. I hope it doesnt affect you like it did me.

Re: glucose test?
My dr requested it to make sure I didn't have PCOS. I was going to go on metaformin so she was just making sure. I just had a blood test though.

Re: glucose test?
Ive had fasting insulin and fasting blood sugar done but not glucose tollerance. My 2nd opinion Dr suggested it but then said its not imperative b/c the other 2 tests were normal.

Re: glucose test?
My gloucose tolerance was always normal, but an endocrinologist I was seeing for my thryroid suggested I take an insulin resistance test because I was gaining weight in spite of a healthy diet with exercise (and my thryoid's always controlled with synthroid). I also have diabetes in my family. I turned out to have insulin resistance, which means I am pre-diabetic and is also an indication of PCOS. I was put on metformin and lost some weight. I would definitely ask for both tests if I were you.
