spinoff to my home town post
this is what happened to us. Sorry so long.
We looked at houses for almost a year. In this time we made a few offers that we ended up getting out bid on or the sellers did not want to come down. Last April when I was walking I saw a for sale sign on a lot, so I called the number and the house was just outside of our max price range. We setup a meeting to meet with the builder a reputable one that has built in our town and is in the process of building a subdivision. We made an offer, and they countered, we went back and forth a few times and they we said this is our Max bid. They turned us down – well come June we get a call “are you still interested” ummmm yes!! So they accepted our offer from 2 months back. We were so happy then went into contract in July. The builder was supposed to go for a variance the first week of September, so I contacted him in late August to see if we were still on schedule and he said that there were some issues with the lot and that it would be in October. . . . again I contacted him in late September and I got this run around story - different then the first “august story”.
Long story short, there have been issues with permits and the land and we were pretty much told that it is not going to happen about 4 weeks ago. ? The builder moved to Florida, well the builder’s son (he was the person we were dealing with). The story changed every day, and when we asked questions we would not get answers or phone calls or emails back. Our lawyer had to get involved.
In the mean time we started looking again and right away we found a house 3 towns over, it needs a LOT of work (the kitchen has no working appliances – they are from when the house was built), but we were able to negotiate to a price where we will be able to fix it up.
At first we were planning on having this NEW house in our “home town”. Thinking about living in another town or another house seemed strange. We went to see the house in the other town 3 times, with our parents etc. and we really love it so we are moving towns. The inspection is tomorrow. Fingers crossed that everything goes well!
Thanks for listening

Re: spinoff to my home town post
Good luck!!
I don't like to go outside my comfort zone. I spent most of my life in the Bellmore/Merrick area. Moved into an apartment with DH in Wantagh (next town from Bellmore). When we started looking for houses, I didn't want to leave Nassau, specifically this area. This is what I know. However, any house in our price range in these areas just weren't what I wanted. We were pretty much confined to looking in the Levittown area and I (and this is a personal preference so I hope no one takes offense) hate Levitt houses. Our apartment is the 2nd floor of a Levitt house. So, we started looking in Suffolk and sure enough we found a house in Ronkonkoma and we closed 10 days ago! It makes me very very anxious because I am completely new to that area but you gotta do what you gotta do!
Best of luck!
