Port Canaveral? (another cruise Q)

Has anyone sailed out of Port Canaveral before? Is it far from the airport? Just want to hear your experiences, and want to see whether or not to just look strictly at going from either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami...

We did - we actually flew in the night before, took a taxi to a hotel near the port and slept overnight. Then another taxi to the port. I don't remember it being a very long ride...

I've sailed out of there 2x and am familiar with the area since many of DH's family live over there. It's about a 45 minute drive from the airport in Orlando. There are many hotels in the area that offer shuttles if you are planning on flying in the day before.

This forum on Cruise Critic will give you some more info Florida Departures

I've flown into Orlando and cruised out of there - I took a bus that was arranged by my cruiseline.

It wasn't bad - we just went to the Bahamas in November and were expecting better weather.

sailed out of port canaveral twice. I have family in the Orlando area; so i usually fly down a few days before;

1st time we were a large group so we had shuttles pick us up from my grandmothers house...

2nd time it was just DH & myself so we rented a car while we were in Orlando and drove down to to port Canaveral. it's a short ride. On the way back we use coco beach shuttle. they gave us the best price for o/w transfers. I can't remember how much we paid...

We sailed out of Port Canaveral in 2009. We used the shuttle provided by Carnival to transfer from the airport. It is about an hour away, so other ports are closer to their respective airports. The embarkation process was fine though.

We LOVE sailing out of Port Canaveral! It's easy to navigate, clean, and not terribly crowded. Definitely no Port of Miami, LOL!

We advise clients to arrive the day before and stay at a nearby hotel - the Radisson at the Port is a favorite, though the food options nearby are less than stellar. Their park 'n cruise rates and shuttle have never let us down.

Another option is stay in Cocoa Beach where you have more choices of major hotel chains and better dining. It's about 15-20 minutes to the port, depending on how far down in CB you stay and the traffic. I would NOT recommend the Comfort Inn in Cocoa Beach. blech.
