Flooring advice

Hi ladies,

I need some advice....
I am currently working on doing small improvements throughout my house. I need to find a place that sells flooring/carpeting and provides a reasonable price for installation. Can anyone recommend a local business in Nassau County that does good work for a reasonable price?

I am also kind of torn about "should I do hardwood or carpeting"? I was thinking doing hardwood, but this is the first floor and we don't have a basement, so the floor gets super cold in the winter....I was thinking possibly placing carpet instead, anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Flooring advice

I got my carpet from Jim Flack in Farmingdale.

For hardwood on the first floor on slab you will need to put down a subfloor first or sleepers so there is something that the boards can nail to.

We are on a slab and decided to use engineered wood and it is floating (although you could glue it down).
We installed the wood floor ourselves and bought it from LI Paneling.

Re: Flooring advice

If you are thinking at all of re-sale value, I would put hardwood. People LOVE hardwood and it is usually more neutral and timeless looking. It is also easier to maintain (in my view) especially in high traffic areas of the first floor (carpet gets worn and/or dirty so easily).

And you can always warm it up with nice area rugs -- you can do very big ones and get the effect of carpeting without installing it wall-to-wall.
