I was induced with DC and it was very successful, had a vaginal delivery without any complications.

Medically I mean. A lot of women seem to have a vibe that being induced isn't such a good thing? ty

You'll get a lot of differing opinions on this probably. I'm personally against it unless medically necessary for the baby's safety. I know a lot of women choose to be induced simply because they are uncomfortable and "done" being pregnant. And a lot is doctors would induce early if the mother wants it. I just feel it is messing with nature. Due dates are such a guessing game anyway and I just feel (for the most part) babies will come out when they are ready. As PP mentioned, it increases your risk of c-section and can put baby in distress.

I think if you are the right candidate for it (dilated, effaced, baby's head low, bulging waters, etc) it is not a bad thing. DS was a regular vag. delivery and I assumed DD would be too. I ended up being induced with DD b/c I was contracting every minute or so with minor contractions. DD was also measuring very large, which she was. I was not happy because I always heard inductions are horrible, painful, will lead to c sections, etc, but I had a great experience with my induction.

more often than not (in my experience..at least) friends that have been induced had a long, VERY long, labor and some had to resort to a c-section bec they were not progressing...

But these ladies weren't overly due so my theory is that the baby is just NOT ready!

I would never choose induction unless absolutely necessary. I was induced w/ DS #1 due to no fluid, and it was a 3.5 day labor, with 8 hours of pushing, and DS wound up in the NICU due to fetal distress.

its not a bad thing per say, part of the reason why many docs feel after 40 feel for compelled to induce is because the placenta starts to calcify after 38 weeks.. it gets old and when you push it upto 42 weeks, there may be a chance of doing more harm than good with keeping the baby inside.. i feel like there's a rush to induce when someone approaches 41 weeks or closer to it.. it doesn't make me comfortable but I see the reasoning behind it..

eta: and there's a higher chance of the baby passing meconium as well as you get past 40 so... they have their reasons..

i had a failed induction last week and the experience is very fresh in my mind. i progressed just fine but while pusihing she just would not descend. she wasnt in distress but i was in a ton of pain and she was face up so i had back labor.... when it was clear she wasnt coming down, i had the C. after 27 hours of labor. and 3 hrs pushing.

i STILL think that for the right candidate under the right circumstances an induction is fine.

I had a successful induction that resulted in a vag delivery. I had no issues.

as with everything, i think it depends on the individual and their circumstances. i was induced and had a very quick, very successful induction. Some people do, some people don't!

I don't think its bad or good.. It depends on all the different situations..
My scenario.... I was 42 weeks so Dr didn't want to wait any longer for normal concerns. I never dialated passed 2 cm and ended up w/cs.
I personally think I should have tried to convince them for a few more days or had them do things a little differently during my induction. It is what it is now and have my perfect baby boy and with #2 now I am trying to go for a vbac. I think it would be wiser to wait to be induced if you can as long as possible or if you are already showing signs of progress (dialted, effaced, etc..)
