Elevated TSH?
So my RE redid some bloodwork since I had an elevated TSH and prolactin. My prolactin is within range but my TSH is still elevated.
Do I have to take medication for this forever or is it short term? Are there any side effects from this? Does anyone else have this issue?

Re: Elevated TSH?
TSH issues are pretty common, I know a few people who had their IUI and IVF cycles postponed till they could get their levels under control.
Generally you just need to take a low dosage pill each morning to bring the levels down.
Women with thyroid issues are a lot more likely to suffer miscarriages so best for doctors to address before one is actually pregnant.

Re: Elevated TSH?
Whether or not you will need to be on medication forever depends on the reason why you are hypothyriod (elevated TSH).
For me it was Hashimoto's Disease which is an autoimmune that causes the body to essentially attack the thyroid, decreasing it's function over time. So I will be on medication forever.
For others it is temporary - can be affected by hormone changes throughout life.
It is definitely something that needs to be controlled when TTC and pregnant. When my levels are off I don't ovulate (this may or may not be the only problem though). I did miscarry when I got pregnant but they did not attribute it to my TSH levels.

Re: Elevated TSH?
Me too...on meds for 4 yrs now. Stay away from soy products, as it interferes with the medication (found this out the hard way and now they had to up my dosage).
Actually at the moment i'm experimenting. I went gluten free (though its so hard, its hidden in everything and sometimes you just don't know). I read an article where they thought all these thyroid issues were the result of gluten. We'll see, I'm 2 1/2 months into it. Go back to my endo next month. I do have a lot more energy. Haven't lost weight or anything like that. Actually was curious to see if it has any affect on my elevated NK cells. And I just redid that test yesterday. Makes me feel like I'm doing something when I'm just waiting around, I suppose...lol.. I'll pretty much try anything, as long as its safe.
