I just got a refund check for closing costs...
Has this happened to anyone? They sent me a check with a letter that they estimated the closing costs too high. We close June 2010 so it's been a year and a half. I keep thinking it's too Good to be true and they are gonna ask for it back...

We got money back the day of the closing. They esitmated about $900 to high. But it was that day, not months later. I would call and double check before you cash it.

It may be because there are new RESPA regulations in place and they are reviewing tons of old files to see if closing costs were misrepresented. It's essentially punishing the lenders for not following the guidelines.

So far we've recvd 3 refunds from closing. We closed almost a year ago and the most recent check came in this week from the title company. Our attorney had told us that some of the closing costs were overestimated and that we'd be getting money back. In total we got back about $2,000.

Interesting, that was knd of the gist of the letter but it didn't make sense to me...
