My diamond cracked...Need help
One of my baquettes on my engagement rings looks like it cracked or chipped. I need advise on what to do. My husband got it from macys but we never took mout insurance on it from them or anyone. What should I do??? Do you think anyone would replace it for me? Should I call macys still??? I am really upset and nervous that if i get it replace it wont be the same quality or will cause it to fall out if snot done correctly

Do you have renter or home owner insurance? Do you think it would be looked at as a nuisance claim? If not, then perhaps you can claim it under that? I only ask so your insurance policy won't be dropped....

Get renters insurance. It is very inexpensive. This type of situation is exactly what it is for. I had a friend loose everything because they did not have renter's insurance. Please do yourself a favor and get it. See if your car insurance company offers it and can give you a deal.
As for the ring, yes call Macy's. See if they can repair it. I would see if there is any warranty on the ring.

I'm not sure it's possible for a diamond to crack.
Are you sure it's not dirty?
I would try giving it a good washing:
Put a squirt of dish soap and about an inch of amonia in a small glass/dish. Add water and let the ring soak. Then use a toothbrush to clean the ring.

Re: My diamond cracked...Need help
If one diamond hits another one it can crack. If the diamond was hit at a fracture point it can crack. It would take a lot of force but it can happen. That is how you get facets on a diamond. If not every one would be wearing unpolished and uncut stones.

renters insurance alone will not cover the ring. you need to add the jewelry rider to it.

Re: My diamond cracked...Need help
Not sure how big the diamond is but if it's not too big you might be surprised at how cheaply you could get it replaced. Even if you do have renters/homeowners it might not be worth it to claim it b/c then your insurance will probably go up and you might have a deductible that might be more than actually paying to fix it yourself. Just to give you an idea, my bands on my wedding ring and engagement ring have a lot of small diamonds around the entire band and I once lost a stone and it was only $50 to replace. Worth checking into. Not sure where you are located but Good Old Gold in Massapequa is really great and they wont try to take you for every last penny. GL

Just saw your update. I would check with some other local places and see if they can do it for the same or cheaper. A lot of jewelry stores have a jeweler on-site and they can probably do it while you wait which is what I did or even pick it up a few days later. I wouldnt want to part w/my ring for that long either.
