focal point

i am going to a childbirth class next month at dr office ...I guess its like lamaze but only one class with a bunch of info in it. probably not necessary but i feel I should go. they said to bring a focal point. what are you bringing? and for moms who have already done this- during actual labor does the focal point really help?

I've never heard of bring a focal point to childbirth class. In the childbirth class we took, they suggested finding a focal point in the room somewhere (could be an object you bring, or a spot on the wall, etc.) and it absolutely helps getting through contractions! It helps to keep your mind c alm and focused rather than freaking out over the pain.

I never had a focal point, my eyes were closed while I was pushing, during contractions, and when I was resting between pushing.
